Screening of the documentary Anti-authoritarians at War and discussion with a comrade from Solidarity Collectives.
Followed by a benefit collection and a distro/infoshop.
Bologna, Friday April 10th, 7 pm @ Làbas – vicolo Bolognetti 2
Anti-Authoritarians at War tells the story of anarchist and anti-authoritarian militants taking part in the resistance in Ukraine after the Russian invasion. The documentary follows the experiences of fighters and volunteers who chose to organize autonomously and in solidarity, showing both the military dimension and the political and mutual aid aspects of the resistance. After the screening, there will be a discussion with a comrade from Solidarity Collectives, a network engaged in supporting fighters and solidarity initiatives on the ground.
Below is the statement from Làbas. Our heartfelt thanks to the comrades who, from day one, have stood firmly on the side of resistance against imperialist aggression.
We first came across Solidarity Collectives shortly after the start of Putin’s Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, when we realised it was essential to engage in dialogue with those who, whilst sharing ideals of freedom and equality, found themselves faced with the dilemma of taking up arms to avoid succumbing to the military might of an imperialist aggression.
The construction of a rebellious, Mediterranean and international political Europe begins first and foremost with dialogue, and then with confederation, between cities, networks and organisations that are anti-fascist, environmentalist, transfeminist and opposed to the detention of migrants and forced return; it involves exchange and solidarity with those who, on the ground, defend and build rights, mutual aid and solidarity, and with those who do not bow to the power of the many kings.
For this reason, we believe it is crucial to maintain an open dialogue with the anti-authoritarian movements in Ukraine, and on Friday 10 April we will host the event ‘Anti-authoritarians at War’, featuring the screening of a documentary on the experiences of fighters and volunteers who have chosen to organise themselves autonomously and in solidarity, followed by a discussion with a comrade from Solidarity Collectives.
We know that the same event was due to take place at two other venues in the city, but was subsequently cancelled. Làbas has always stood for the right to resist, as have the Social Municipalities. And never has it been more crucial – at this stage, with the war having raged for four years and turmoil in Europe growing ever stronger – to engage in dialogue, keep abreast of developments and seek understanding, if we truly wish to build a new world. It is from this exchange that a different Europe can emerge, beyond capitalism in crisis, sovereignist nationalism and war as a tool for regulating the balance of power. Let us not look away from the contradictions, but let us embrace them, to resolve them and continue walking together, ever more numerous and strong, against kings and their wars.
That is why we are delighted to announce that the event will take place at Làbas, at Vicolo Bolognetti 2, on Friday 10 April at 7pm.
