We are sharing this important opportunity for discussion and reflection on the Syrian transition following the fall of the Baathist regime, a situation about which we too had expressed serious concerns.
We’re sharing it because we think it’s important to listen to the voices of people directly living through revolutionary experiences or moments of deep social upheaval, and who are now questioning the future of their communities.
From the announcement published on Davide Grasso’s page, one of the seminar’s organizers:
“The seminar will bring together some of the leading Syrian and non-Syrian scholars specialising in the country’s economy, society, law and social movements, some of whom have never met in person. It will bring together Arab and Kurdish scholars, intellectuals who grew up in Sunni or Druze communities and who, at times, fought for or supported different political factions during the war.
The aim of the seminar is to spend two days analysing the Syrian transition and the prospects that have opened up or closed down over the past year and a half. In addition to this, the aim is also to develop ideas and proposals that can make a useful contribution to overcoming the difficulties in the current transition, and to prevent further violence such as that which has taken place on the coast, in Suwayda and in the north-eastern regions.”
The international seminar will take place at the University of Turin on 11–12 June, at the Luigi Einaudi Campus, Room B2.
